The Birmingham Lindy Exchange is working in conjunction with The Birmingham and Solihull Jazz & Blues Festival and we have some great live music to swing out to over the weekend. In addition to some great daytime dancing at festival events we have three nights of great live music in venues around the city made for dancing the night away!

Friday Night

The Schwings with Laura Budreckyte (Lithuania) at The Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Edgebaston

The Schwings and Laura Budreckyete return to Birmingham as firm favourites with the festival public. The Schwings play  swing, gypsy and Brazilian jazz with an authentic, original sound and its sincere communication with the audience. A pulsating rhythm, unusual instrument combinations, artistry,  positive and lively performance – all these aspects  define The Schwings.

Singer Laura Budreckyte comes from a cozy Birštonas resort in the jazz mecca of Lithuania, home to the oldest jazz festival in Lithuania. In 2014 Laura graduated from the Lithuanian Music and Theatre Academy with a master‘s degree in vocal jazz studies. Also she became 1st place winner and best free programme performer at the Jazz Voices competition in Klaipėda (Lithuania, 2012), and won the Grand Prix at international Riga Jazz Stage competition (Latvia, 2013).

Saturday Night

The Birmingham Swing Ball in Aston University Hall featuring the wonderful sounds of The Jim Wynn Swing Orchestra.

The Jim Wynn Swing Orchestra is Birmingham’s hippest 16-piece big band, specialising in authentic vintage swing music from the 1930s and 40s.  Taking its inspiration from the big bands of the swing era, the Orchestra plays the classic original arrangements of Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Fletcher Henderson and Count Basie amongst others.  The Orchestra is a regular at swing dance events and is sure to get the joint jumpin’!

Sunday Night 

Martyn Nelson with his Rhythm Remedies at the Dark Horse Moseley

5pm – 8pm : Farewell party. Red Star Swing featuring Martyn Nelson with his Rhythm Remedies. This band know exactly what dancers want and will keep you on the dance floor all evening! Moseley is one of the UK’s most culturally diverse and creative villages, home to a wealth of festivals focusing on everything from music, craft beers and the arts.
